While enroute to the Armed Robbery officers observed a vehicle fleeing the area without lights. When the Officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to stop and fled at speeds in excess of one hundred (100) miles per hour, east on the Westbank Expressway.
During the pursuit the right rear tire of the suspect’s vehicle blew out and began to shred, yet the driver still refused to stop. The vehicle entered Orleans Parish turning off the Westbank Expressway onto Behrman Highway and began to slow down. Upon approaching Arizona Street the occupants began throwing money out of the vehicle windows.
The driver, later identified as Dale Brown, jumped from the moving vehicle and charged the pursuing police vehicle with a black object in his hand. The officer, fearing for his life and believing the object to be a weapon, the officer fired his weapon, striking Brown whom fell to the ground, but proceeded to get up and flee. Brown was later apprehended by the Gretna Police K-9 officer and his partner. It was learned at this time Brown had received a gunshot wound to his leg.
The passenger, later identified as Tramell Lafrance, exited the vehicle after it crashed into a tree, and pointed an object at the officer, fearing for his life and believing the object to be a firearm; the officer fired his weapon striking Lafrance in the side. The object was later identified as a semi-automatic hand gun.
The two rear-seat passengers, later identifies as Darrin Robin and Shawn Ward were taken into custody without incident. Robin and Ward were transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center and booked. Darren Robin was booked with Principal to Armed Robbery, due the fact that he was discarding money from the vehicle. Darrin Ward was booked with Armed Robbery after it was determined that he was one of the suspects that entered the store and robbed it at gun point.
Brown and Lafrance were both booked with Armed Robbery after it was determined that Lafrance was the second suspect that entered the business with Ward and robbed it at gun point and Brown for being the driver of the getaway vehicle.
Officers did recover the currency, plastic cylinders from the drop safe, cigarettes that were stolen during the robbery, along with the masks, gloves and guns that were utilized in this crime.
On January 6, 2014 Lafrance and Ward were both rebooked with Possession of Stolen Property after it was verified that the weapon possessed during the crime was confirmed stolen out of Kenner on December 14, 2008.
Brown is a member of the Harvey Hustler’s and Lafrance is an associate of the group.
