Today, in the best interests of the citizens of the City of Gretna, the City settled a First
Amendment Claim of free speech brought by a former, disgruntled police department
employee in the federal court.
While unsubstantiated and unproven allegations of a purported quota were made against the police department, the plaintiff acknowledged on the record there has been absolutely no finding of any policy, custom or practice of a quota at the Gretna Police Department. The plaintiff’s allegations that he was protected as a whistle blower were dismissed. We stand by our position and will defend against any similar allegations which are equally without any factual or legal basis whatsoever.
This settlement certainly favors the City of Gretna and we would have been remiss had we not brought this litigation to a conclusion at this time.
