On Saturday, May 25, 2019, at approximately 12:30am members of the Gretna Police Department along with Emergency Medical Services and David Crockett Fire Department responded to a 911 call at 1216 Chilo Street in Gretna of a possible residence on fire.
Upon arrival of the initial officers it was observed that the front of the residence was engulfed in flames. Officers determined that the victim a 71 year old was trapped in the back yard behind a locked gate. Officers used available equipment and physical strength to create a point of exit for the victim. Officers were able to get to the victim and escort her to safety just moments before live wires and debris began falling from the residence.
The residence is a complete loss, but due to the fast actions of the officers no one was injured.
The investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of fire.
